Why EO?
As a freshman in college, I was on a floor with two other Elizabeths. All of us quite wedded to the name in full – not a Betsy, Liz or Beth in the bunch. Still, we needed a way to distinguish among us. For the entirety of the prior 18 years, I had resisted the nicking of my name, but in this new environment, the chance to reinvent myself—to take a risk, to do the opposite of what came naturally and to say “why not” led me to the nickname “EO,” after my first two initials. It stuck with me through college, grad school and my career in the financial services industry. (It’s even the refrain in the Police song “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic.”)
